Happy National Recycling Day!

We LOVE recycling and composting here at Eco-Products.
Recycling is the process of collecting materials that would have otherwise been thrown away as trash and turning them into new products. Recycling saves water and energy, reduces pollution, creates jobs, and conserves natural resources.
So, how does Eco-Products support recycling? BlueStripe®!
- Our BlueStripe products are made with anywhere from 24 – 100% Post-Consumer Recycled Content (PCR). Wow!
- Making products with PCR drives demand for recycling markets and infrastructure
- We are working to better understand end-of-life processing opportunities for our BlueStripe products, with the potential to give these materials even more lives. For now, most of them belong in the landfill, depending on your community’s capabilities. We always recommend checking locally to see what your recycler can accept.
- An added bonus – products made with PCR tend to have a lower carbon footprint than their immediate counterparts made with 100% virgin plastics. Double win!
How can you support recycling?
- Purchase items that are made with PCR and/or can be recycled at the end of their useful life. You may need to check locally to ensure the product can be recycled in your community.
- Don’t “wish cycle”, meaning tossing items in the recycling bin you hope (but aren’t 100% sure) are accepted at your local sorting facility. Contamination is a major issue that can lead to recyclers no longer accepting certain items, increasing the overall cost of recycling, or even having to throw contaminated collection into the landfill instead of getting recycled. So, follow the old adage “when in doubt, throw it out” — It is best to provide recyclers with the cleanest, most valuable stream possible to support recycling infrastructure.
- Sign up for curbside recycling for your household if it is available or find out where your community’s closet drop-off recycling is located. Recycle as much as you can from your household.
