Rathmann Challenge

Have a vision for expanding the use of compost in the US? Want $300,000? Then pay attention! The Rathmann Challenge is offering up to $300,000 to visionaries who come up with solutions to scaling the use of compost. Why? Because when mixed with soil, compost helps sequester carbon in the ground – a better place for it than the atmosphere, where it contributes to climate change. Compost also decreases erosion, stormwater run-off, and the need for irrigation and artificial fertilizer. It’s pretty miraculous if you think about it.

If you want to apply for the Rathmann Challenge you can find the application at www.rathmanninnovation.org. Application submission opens on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at 11 a.m. Eastern Time and closes on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at 11 a.m. Eastern Time, or when 200 qualified applications have been received, whichever comes first.

If you want more reasons compost is cool check out the US Composting Council’s Factsheet.
