Partner Spotlight: Sustainable Packaging Coalition

Posted by Eco-Products on Sep 16th 2020

We have great industry partners that we work with at Eco-Products®, so we are highlighting some of them in the Dish. We hope you’ll gain a greater appreciation for these awesome groups and a better understanding of why we work with each of them. This week we’re focusing on the Sustainable Packaging Coalition.

Sustainable Packaging Coalition: Passionate about creating packaging that is good for people and the environment

Sustainable Packaging CoalitionThe Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) is a membership-based collaborative that believes in the power of industry to make packaging more sustainable. Its mission is twofold: 1) bring stakeholders together to improve packaging systems and 2) speak out on important issues.

We’re excited to be part of the coalition’s new Compostable Packaging Collaborative. It brings together members from across the value chain to discuss issues, share resources and identify best practices. We’re particularly excited to work with this group towards increased commercial composting infrastructure in the United States.

Sustainable Packaging Coalition ReportWe’ve partnered with SPC on other projects as well. For example, we played an important role in the SPC’s report, “Value of Compostable Packaging” which analyzed waste from the 2016 Farm Aid music festival. Eco-Products supplied compostable cups, plates and utensils at the festival, allowing attendees to put their leftover food and compostables all in one bin. Due to the use of compostables, the composter servicing the event accepted the front-of-house stream and got over twice the amount of food scraps it would have received had it just accepted back-of-house food scraps from the kitchen.

This type of initiative shows the public wants to be part of the solution. If you create ways for citizens to participate, they will!

We’re proud of these kinds of successes and are excited to continue our work with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition. Learn more about its important efforts at https://sustainablepackaging.org. And learn more about us at www.ecoproducts.com.
