Reflecting on the 2025 BPI Summit: Collaboration, Connection, and Composting for the Future
Oct 1st 2025
We’re still buzzing with inspiration after the 2025 BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) Summit that took place in Atlanta in September. This annual gathering brings together leaders, innovators, scientists, and changemakers from across the organics recovery and compostable products industries. And once again, it delivered.
Building Stronger Connections Across the Composting Ecosystem
One of the most energizing aspects of the BPI Summit is the opportunity to connect with both longtime partners and new collaborators. Whether we’re swapping insights with haulers, catching up with our favorite composters, or brainstorming with fellow manufacturers, the spirit of collaboration is everywhere. These conversations help us align on shared goals, troubleshoot challenges, and celebrate the progress we’re making together. The composting community is a diverse and passionate network, and the Summit reminds us just how powerful we are when we work in sync.
Learning with Insightful Content
The sessions this year were packed with actionable insights from the latest in the science of biodegradation and non-persistent microplastics, how composters use certified compostable products to enhance organics recovery systems, and contamination challenges and opportunities. We walked away with new tools, fresh perspectives, and a deeper understanding of how we can support the growth of a circular bioeconomy.
Plus, the new Home Compostable BPI Certification scheme was announced! We look forward to learning more about this certification and how it may affect our product end-of-life classifications and labeling.
Sharing our Knowledge
Our Sustainability Maven, Megan Jorgensen, presented with Leah Ford of CJ Biomaterials about the challenges and opportunities associated with Life Cycle Assessment and Product Carbon Footprint data for products made with renewable raw materials that are designed for composting. Read more about some of the concepts covered during this presentation.
Witnessing Sustainability in Action through Tours:
Our team also attended each of the tours over the week. They enjoyed:
- A day-long tour of the CompostNow Atlanta-based Feedstock Hub and compost facility. CompostNow is a certified B Corp that is focused on keeping organics out of landfills and treating people well along the way. We were inspired by their people-first strategy and their drive to compost food scraps and compostable products from the communities they serve.
- A sustainability-focused tour of Mercedez-Benz Stadium, the world’s first LEED Platinum stadium. We were impressed by its zero-waste operations, use of renewable energy, water conservation efforts, and support of alternative transportation for patrons. The stadium also proudly features an urban garden and offers inspiring STEAM programming for students in grades 3-12.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s Summit. Who knows, maybe we’ll see you there?
