Ben & Jerry's Milkshake cup getting thrown in compost bin

Overview

Ben & Jerry’s has been using custom printed products at multiple Ben & Jerry's locations across the country for several years. An independently-owned store in Charlottesville, Virginia, wanted to take the next step - diverting the in-store waste.

Challenge

This is not a standalone building, so the store owner needed permission from the landlord for composting bins in the communal area and a hauler who would work within the rules.

Solution

Our PZW found a composter and helped with bins and signage. He also was in-store on launch day, training employees and answering customer questions.

Results

To date, the Charlottesville location is the only known outlet waste diverting from the front of house. All the waste is being collected and processed by Black Bear Composting.
