National Zero Waste Week, September 5-9
Posted by Eco-Products on Aug 31st 2022
National Zero Waste Week is here! From September 5 – 9, 2022, the world is celebrating a movement to reduce waste, reuse materials and recycle (which includes compost!) as much as possible. According to their website, Zero Waste Week recognizes the value of composting food waste and organics to produce compost – rather than placing organics in a landfill where they will produce methane, a potent greenhouse gas.
The “there’s no such place as away” adage adopted by the campaign supports a similar notion that Eco-Products believes in: When we throw something “away”, it doesn’t really go “away”. This is why Eco-Products is obsessed with providing products made from more responsible materials (either made from renewable resources or post-consumer recycled content), AND that they can be composted or recycled at the end of their use. We don’t just want a compostable cup made from more responsible materials, but we want to connect the person using that cup to proper end of life logistics to get that cup to a composter, process it into rich compost, to then be used to grow more agricultural products or help mitigate climate change.
Using our compostable products can support Zero Waste by bringing more food scraps to a composter, keeping more single use disposables out of landfills, and turning all of those organic materials into rich compost. A more circular way of thinking about single use disposables, with Zero Waste principles throughout.
Enough about what Eco-Products does to promote a Zero Waste world. What can YOU do?
- Bring reusables with you: Reusable water bottles, coffee mugs, shopping bags and food containers are great places to start.
- Purchase products that support a more circular economy: Plant based products that are renewable and/or compostable, products made with post-consumer recycled content and/or are recyclable, and products that come in more responsible packaging.
