On Earth Day 2020 (and beyond), Let’s Make It Better

Eco-Products’ Seventh Annual Sustainability Report

On April 22, it’s really tempting for us to say stuff like “Every day is Earth Day at Eco-Products.” That’s a true statement, since we come to work every day with our vision in mind: To be in the vanguard of our Zero Waste future. However, while cute hashtags sound nice and make for good social media stats, they don’t speak to the truth about corporate sustainability work: that it’s hard. It’s hard to be honest about the fact our products aren’t perfect. It’s hard to set goals with deadlines… and make them public (gulp). It’s hard to recalibrate our sustainability strategy every year to make sure we’re pushing ourselves to continually do better. But we do it. If we didn’t take this stuff seriously and didn’t invest in doing the hard work, we would not be living up to our name.

Eco-Products Sustainability Report 2020

This commitment to continual improvement is chronicled in detail in our Seventh Annual Sustainability Report, which we are pleased to share today. We invite you to read about our commitments and our progress – from putting more boots on the ground to support customer Zero Waste efforts, to working with communities across the country to expand composting infrastructure, to supporting studies that quantify the significant amounts of food scraps that can be diverted through the use of compostable packaging – and much more.

We also want to share our latest brand campaign idea: “Let’s Make It Better.” Unfortunately, there is a lot that needs to be better today – from improving recycling infrastructure, to supporting the composting sector, to grappling with the impacts of the COVID crisis which continues to challenge the foodservice industry and the world. We know there are no easy fixes to these issues. However, we are committed to doing our part by having the hard conversations, rolling up our sleeves, and asking “how can we make it better?”

As we wrestle with the impacts of packaging and our impacts as a company, we are clear-eyed about how far we have to go – and the fact that the destination may not always be obvious today. However, we won’t let the hard stuff dissuade us. Let’s recognize there is always room for improvement. Let’s rise to the occasion by questioning the status quo and asking how we can build a better future. Let’s take a step in the right direction. Let’s fight for change. Let’s Make It Better.

Green is all we do.
