Sustainability Maven Out and About

The Sustainability Series is a monthly meeting for sustainability leaders in Colorado’s Front Range universities, business, not-for-profit organizations, and governmental agencies to present and discuss practical applications of sustainability in today’s world. This particular session of the Sustainability Series was organized jointly by CORE Colorado (http://www.corecolorado.org/), the Wirth Chair Sustainability Series, and several local leaders.

Claudia lead a discussion around sustainability challenges at Eco-Products and was joined by Sustainability Directors from CH2M Hill, Shaw Construction and CORE Colorado. Among the many interesting topics at this meeting, the presentation centered around challenges that folks working in sustainability face each day at work. It’s fairly easy in theory to talk about reducing your carbon intensity, saving water and engaging employees – but making a compelling financial case for these initiatives, convincing top management to embed sustainability in their strategy, difficulties with data gathering and reporting, and supplier/LCA trade-offs make this kind of work uniquely challenging. The meeting was very well attended and Claudia’s presentation inspired many interesting conversations around organizational change, recycling and composting, and sustainability in today’s economy.
